NATIONAL SKILLS COALITION Our Workforce Development partnership with the Temple Lenfest North Philadelphia Workforce Initiative (LNPWI) and the Center for Urban Bioethics (Lewis Katz Medical School at Temple) is in its second year. Combined with our participation in the Philadelphia Taking Care of Business (PHL TCB) program, CTS is presently employing six men five of whom are returning citizens as Cleaning Ambassadors. These Cleaning Ambassadors help us keep the Broad, Germantown and Erie commercial corridor clean. Through our partnership with the Temple Computer Recycling Center all six recently received a full computer system setup (computer, monitor, cables, headphones, camera). Our Cleaning Ambassadors immediately used the equipment in the LNPWI “Driving To Success” online program designed to help individuals obtain a driver’s license. CTS executive director Jeff Harley helped design the program. The computer equipment also enables our cleaning ambassadors’ participation in the PHL TCB Career Safe OSHA-10 certification program. Lastly, CTS is looking forward to hiring a full-time Director of Workforce Development in 2021.
CTS is an integral participant in the “Employer Engagement Working Group” of the Temple Lenfest North Philadelphia Initiative (LNPWI). CTS has helped to formulate an “employer engagement strategy” that has helped to build a network of 92 employers in the Greater Delaware Valley who are assisting with creating “career pathways” within their organizations for the people who are in the LNPWI workforce development program. CTS is a participant in the LISC Community-Based Economic Inclusion Project. CTS along with LISC and 14 other Community Organizations and Economic/Social/Research Think Tanks are exploring viable solutions to the economic development in underserved communities in the City of Philadelphia through Business and Career/Job Development.
